Gathering a Strong Event

Several new features at this year’s Gathering conference were strongly affirmed.   Among these were the Steve Reid Bible studies, a late evening campfire program with 150 or so attending, the separate youth and junior high retreats, the participation of the Brethren musical ensemble Mutual Kumquat, and a new Open Conversations workshop.  Always getting high marks are the times of worship, the series of nine workshops offered and the family friendly flavor of the event.

Overall the conference received strong ratings from participants (4.35 on a five point scale).  269 persons from 28 congregations participated in some portion of the event.  Congregations with 10 or more persons participating included: Antelope Park, Bethel (CO), Hutchinson Community, First Central, McPherson, Monitor, Newton, Quinter, Wichita and the Big Creek congregation from Southern Plains District.

The Gathering Planning Team for 2010 and the Transformation Steering Team met in Kansas City November 29-30 to do an in-depth evaluation of this event, to begin to think about the 2011 Gathering, and (the TST) to work on various aspects of the District’s transformation initiatives.
